My autumn capsule wardrobe

It’s that time of the year again – a time to change up our wardrobe and create a capsule for the new season. If you don’t know what capsules are and you’re interested in reading more, then check out my blog post on how to create your capsule wardrobe. But if you know what they are and you’re looking for some inspiration, then you’ve come to the right place.

I don’t know about you but I get super excited every time I’m changing up my wardrobe. It feels like a fresh start – like I can let go of the past and I can focus on the future. Maybe that’s just me but let me know what some of your experiences are 😉

MY CHOICES

My system of deciding is pretty simple – I place everything on the bed and then I pick and choose what I would like to keep. I don’t worry about numbers because that is not the point of minimalism.

But once I finish, I do like to know how many pieces I’ve picked because that information helps me to buy less – I’m trying to shift the focus on how much I have, instead of how much I don’t.

So here are my picks – and keep in mind that when it comes to transitional seasons (spring and fall), I usually keep from 10-15 pieces more because the weather changes so much.

Some people create a more fluid capsule to deal with this issue, but I prefer to do it this way because it encourages me to stay creative. I can play around and find new ways of styling my older items, and I especially love when I find a way to wear something on both warm and cold days.

COLOUR PALETTE

I’ve been doing capsules for more than two years now and during that time I slowly found out which colours I gravitate towards in each season, which means I already know which are my go-to colours.

So when it comes to fall, I prefer more muted colours – I tend to gravitate towards blacks, denim and whites with an addition of light and bright pinks and greys.

If you’re new to doing capsules and you’re not sure which colours to use then don’t worry about it – simply pick items you want to have in your capsule and then observe yourself to see which colours you favour. And with the time you’ll learn more about your preferences which will make styling and shopping much easier and enjoyable.

AUTUMN STAPLES

Fall is not my favourite season but despite that, I have some staples that I absolutely love.

But would you be surprised to know that not one of them is a leather jacket? I actually don’t own one – I used to but because it didn’t align with the way I wanted to feel every day, I had to let it go and I haven’t missed it since.

On the other hand, here are the absolute favourites I would miss:

CLOTHING: leather mini skirt, white skinny jeans, cream sweater, white lace top, white silk blouse, tan sweater, coral blouse, pink sweater, grey sweater dress and black trench coat
HANDBAGS: black handbag and pink statement bag
SHOES: flat over the knee boots and lower heel ankle boots

FAVOURITE OUTFIT FORMULAS

Knowing our best outfit formulas can really help us simplify our lives and develop a signature look.

So as much as I love to try every combination possible to get the most wear out of my items, I have two favourite outfit formulas that I always came back to – they make me feel put together and joyous whenever I wear them:

MY WISHLIST

I’m happy with how everything turned out so I’m not planning to buy anything except for two silk blouses from Everlane – one in black and one in light pink.

I’ve been eyeing them for a while now and I almost bought them when I ordered a white version for a summer capsule this year – but I didn’t because I wanted to see how much wear I’m going to get out of it first.

And because I enjoy wearing the white blouse so much, I’m sure I’m going to love these two as well.

That’s it! My capsule wardrobe is ready for fall and so am I 😉
